In simpler terms, SaaS is a way of delivering applications over the internet as a service. Instead of installing and maintaining software, you simply access it via the internet, freeing you from complex software and hardware management. It’s a ‘plug-n-play’ service model where you can start using the software straight away without worrying about the intricacies of setup and maintenance.

Familiar examples of SaaS are Google Workspace (formerly G Suite), which provides a range of productivity and collaboration tools; Dropbox, a cloud storage platform; and Salesforce, a customer relationship management (CRM) platform. These services operate on a subscription basis, where users pay a recurring fee for access, usually monthly or annually, which includes the software license, support, and other fees.
